“Sundown Covey” Giclee’ by CE Monroe Jr.

“Sundown Covey” was painted in 1979 and originally sold through King’s Gallery in New York. This was one of Monroe’s great sporting scenes. His ability to capture light across a landscape was like no other artist of his time. Leaving a covey of quail to the imagination, Monroe lures you in to Hurricane Valley in North Alabama, one of his favorite bird hunting areas.  Kings Gallery took a transparency for insurance and when retired, Monroe shared it and many other works with us in the mid 90’s. In 1998 we printed only 50 signed & numbered giclee’s which sold out immediately. Monroe died a year later. With permission from his son Buck, we have reprinted new Giclee’ editions in both canvas and on Hahnemuhler Bamboo Fine Art Paper. These are open editions, true to size 24×32. In a career spanning over 40 years, Monroe painted over 120 magazine covers and countless illustrations, including works for Time, Life, True, Collier’s, The Progressive Farmer and of course, Field and Stream. Among them were historic illustrations for “Of Mice and Men” and “Old Yeller” when they were first published. Allow 2 weeks. 🇺🇸
