At first, they don’t walk beside you. They walk on you.
Feet placed over yours, trusting you to move, to guide, to carry the rhythm for both of you.
And for a while, you do.
This piece lives in that in-between—where they are learning, but still leaning.
Moving, but still held.
Because one day, they’ll take their own steps.
But for now… they borrow yours.

Savannah Asmus is a Gulf Coast artist based along the eastern shoreline of Mobile Bay whose work transforms found pottery fragments into one-of-a-kind painted artworks. Drawing inspiration from Southern heritage, coastal landscapes, and the stories embedded in everyday objects, she uses oil paint to reimagine centuries-old pottery shards, creating modern relics that blend history, memory, and place. Through her distinctive process, Savannah preserves the beauty of the Gulf Coast while celebrating the connection between art, storytelling, and environmental stewardship.
