Some things aren’t taught. They’re placed gently into our hands.
A quiet moment. A shared curiosity. A softness passed from one generation to the next.
This piece holds that exchange—the kind you can’t measure, only witness.
A reminder that what we give our children often came from someone who gave it to us first.
This piece was made after I took a photo of my grandmother handing my daughter a newly emerged butterfly. The gentleness and curiosity was something that my grandmother passed to my mom, then to me and now to my own daughter.

Savannah Asmus is a Gulf Coast artist based along the eastern shoreline of Mobile Bay whose work transforms found pottery fragments into one-of-a-kind painted artworks. Drawing inspiration from Southern heritage, coastal landscapes, and the stories embedded in everyday objects, she uses oil paint to reimagine centuries-old pottery shards, creating modern relics that blend history, memory, and place. Through her distinctive process, Savannah preserves the beauty of the Gulf Coast while celebrating the connection between art, storytelling, and environmental stewardship.
