The Flora-Bama, famous for its lively atmosphere and iconic beachside location, might not be the first place you’d imagine hosting professional bull riding. But each fall, this legendary spot transforms into the ultimate rodeo arena for Bulls on the Beach, delivering three unforgettable nights of adrenaline-pumping action.
A Family-Friendly Rodeo Extravaganza
Held from September 5-7, 2024, the 11th annual Bulls on the Beach brought together fans of all ages to witness the thrilling spectacle of professional bull riding. Riders from across the country took on 2,000-pound bucking bulls, showcasing incredible skill, strength, and determination as they tried to last the full eight seconds atop these powerful animals.
The event kicked off with Kid’s Night, where children 12 and under competed in a fun-filled coloring contest, with one lucky boy and girl taking home brand-new bicycles. This opening act set the tone for a family-friendly event, blending fierce competition with heartwarming moments.
What Makes Bulls on the Beach Special
Each night of the rodeo featured two categories of competition: adult and junior bull riding. As the gates opened and the bulls charged out, the crowd was on the edge of their seats, cheering as riders battled gravity and the raw force of these magnificent animals. Between competitions, audiences were treated to lively entertainment, including antics from fan-favorite rodeo clown Rockin’ Robbie Hodges, whose comedic flair kept everyone laughing and engaged.
This year, Bulls on the Beach also served a greater purpose, with a portion of proceeds benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The hospital’s mission is to advance cures and prevention for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of their founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay. ensuring that no child is denied care based on race, religion, or a family’s ability to pay.
