“Limited Edition” refers to the fact that there is only a certain amount, or “limited” number of serigraphs printed of a specific piece of artwork.  After the edition is printed, all of the original artwork and screens used to make the print are destroyed or effaced.  This ensures that no additional prints of this image will be made in the future.  This is the opposite of an “Open Edition,” where public demand determines the number of pieces included in an edition.

The limited life of the stencil prevents unlimited editions.  Additionally, variables in the process of hand-pulling serigraphs mean that each individual serigraph is slightly different from each other serigraph in the edition.  Minor deviations in color registration, paint distribution, and variations yield individual pieces that are truly “one-of-a-kind” or “original.”

In “The Glorious Land” artist Rick Rush pays tribute to the rich heroic, political and economic heritage of modern Texas. He portrays the land, represented by the lush bed of Texas bluebonnets, as giving birth to all this great state has become. What Texan can forget the Alamo and its defenders’ intense love of freedom?! In the top half, a subdued yellow rose gives the backdrop to other symbols rich in meaning. In a central transverse band, a riot of bright colors declares a rich political history under six different flags. The San Jacinto Monument reminds the Texan he is free — by raw courage, self-sacrifice and resourcefulness. The Lone Star symbolizes the uniqueness, diversity and self-reliance of Texas. And in the foreground an oil derrick pays tribute to the God-given wealth that bound together history, culture and beauty to produce modern Texas, “The Glorious Land.”
