“Keeper of the Gate” Indigo & Iron Collection
Charleston cemeteries always felt like sacred ground. The black iron gates weren’t just decoration-they were keepers of memory.
This one was inspired by the haunted hush of Spanish moss, wrought iron fences, and the heavy history that hums through the city at night. Like the story of Sue Howard Hardy, the grieving mother said to still visit her infant’s grave at St. Philip’s Church. Charleston doesn’t let go of its ghosts easily.
From the artist: Indigo & Iron is Charleston as I remember it. It’s about the details that stick with you: iron gates, roadside boiled peanuts, and the feel of the marsh air. Each piece includes three miniature oil paintings on historic Mobile Bay pottery fragments, hand-collected along the Eastern Shore and displayed in brass and glass shadow box.
