THE 1980 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS, THE GEORGIA BULLDOGS
Through his work, Rick Rush captures the heartbeat of America in individual sporting events, each locking in time a moment of sports history. In this serigraph, Rick captures the 1980 National Championship game between the Georgia Bulldogs and the perennial power Notre Dame. You can feel the intensity of the Georgia players as they capture their first National Championship before a crowd of 77,895 fans. The Bulldogs defeated Notre Dame 17-10 in the Sugar Bowl in the New Orleans Superdome. Georgia was led by Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker and quarterback Buck Belue. Coach Vince Dooley led his team to a perfect 12-0 season.
